UE/R: NDC clash with police over storage of ballot boxes

Executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the Upper East Region, are up in arms with the police over the safety of the electoral materials that arrived in the Regional capital, Bolgatanga Friday afternoon.

The regional organizer of the party, Adam Matawakilu, stated that the police are opposing the Party’s request to have their own padlock placed on the offices where the ballot boxes are to be kept.

Regional police commander, DCP Ampofo Duku, in response noted that his outfit would not grant the request, adding that he has been directed by his superiors not to allow any party to place locks on the offices where the electoral materials are kept.

But the NDC insisted that until the police agree to their request, they are not living the scene.

Ghana goes to the polls to elect a President and Parliamentarians. The election is mainly a contest between incumbent Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party and former President John Mahama of the NDC.

The Electoral Commission says it aiming to declare the results of the polls within 24 hours.
