Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar was included in India’s playing XI for the second Test against New Zealand, which began at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday (October 24). The 25-year-old spinner, who last featured in a Test for India in March 2021 against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, delivered a stunning ball in the second session of Day 1 to breach Rachin Ravindra’s defense and conclude his innings at 65 runs.

The left-handed Kiwi batter appeared at ease during his 105-ball innings, hitting five fours and one six. He showcased several impressive shots but was left stunned by Sundar’s delivery. Ravindra was dismissed on the very first ball of the 60th over in New Zealand’s first innings.

At the time of Mitchell’s dismissal, New Zealand was in a tough spot at 204 for 6 in 63.3 overs.

Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin claimed all three of New Zealand’s initial wickets. The 38-year-old spinner trapped Kiwi captain Tom Latham (15) lbw, while Will Young (18) and Devon Conway (76) were caught by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant.
