AJAX wonderkid Noah Gesser has tragically died

The talented 16-year-old was involved in a serious car accident on Friday evening in Utrecht, a club spokesman has confirmed.

Gesser was traveling with his 18-year-old brother when their vehicle collided with a taxi on the United Nations Road in IJsselstein, the club has confirmed.

Police have said the victims were both 16 and 18, were from IJsselstein and part of the same family, but stopped short in identifying their names.

The driver of the taxi was taken to hospital as a precaution but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

Ajax said on Twitter: “Ajax is deeply touched by the tragic death of youth player Noah Gesser.

“Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and relatives.”

They announced that the terrible news would be discussed among the first team and youth team at training.

Ajax also said a minute’s silence would be held prior to practice matches, players will wear black armbands and flags would be flown at half-mast.

They added: “Ajax is deeply moved by this tragic event. The club wishes the loved ones of Gesser all the strength to deal with this immense loss.”
