Mame Yaa Aboagye, the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Deputy Communications Director, has condemned Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin for using “foul language” against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Mame Yaa Aboagye slammed the Speaker’s response to the President, claiming that he (Bagbin) must understand that his position comes with responsibilities, one of which is to speak in a respectful manner.
The Speaker was reprimanded by her, and she said, “When speaking to the First Gentleman of the country in your function as Speaker of Parliament, you don’t use words like shortsighted or reckless. Your traditions as a Speaker require you to utilize proper language. Speaker Bagbin, in my opinion, was harsh and should apologize”.
“He must take back his statements, apologize, and act ethically as a Speaker,” Mame Yaa Aboagye said, urging Mr. Bagbin to apologize. This conduct is incompatible with the sanctity of his position”.
However, the NPP’s Deputy Communications Director praised the President for providing a thoughtful interpretation of the court’s decision.
“You are familiar with His Excellency.” Nana Akufo-Addo is an exceptional lawyer who is well-versed in Ghana’s constitution. He made an astute remark, demonstrating his unrivaled legal knowledge. Anyone who wants to be fair and objective should go back and listen to the President’s remarks or read them online, and they will see that he was completely correct.”
