Kumbungu Member of parliament (MP) Ras Mubarak has said that Ghanaians should be blamed for the recent attack on MPs.
His comment came after the MP of Mfantseman Ekow Kwansah Hayford was gun down by armed robbers.
Speaking on Ahotor FM morning show monitored by Daily News Ghana, Ras Mubarak said Ghanaians should be blamed for the recent attacks as they think MPs live on gold.
“They think MPs live on gold, but half of our payment goes back to the constituency, we are just like them, we pay everything we buy our own fuel just like them,” he said.
He told the host Citizen Kofi Owusu that: “If a Member of Parliament could be killed in this manner, you would expect that more bad people or robbers would want to exploit the weaknesses to cause more harm.”
He added that: “this brings to sharp focus the debate about whether or not to give MPs personal bodyguards.”
“I would imagine that the circumstances would have been different if there were probably an armed police officer in the vehicle and the need to give MPs enhanced security cannot be overemphasized.
