E/R: Bloody clash between miners leave one dead in Akyem Aworoso

One person has been confirmed dead in a clash between two groups of illegal miners at Akyem Aworoso near Akyem Apinamang in Dekyembour District of the Eastern Region. Daily News Ghana report.

According to Desmond Anokye Frimpong report, on January 3, 2021, Desmond Anokye Frimpong whiles returning home from mining at Aworoso with his friend Gyekye Mathew, 33, now deceased, however, on reaching the outskirt of Apinamang, three suspects illegal miners Kwadwo Owusu 44, Kojo Awuah and Cash attacked and ordered them to surrender their gold because they went to mine on their concession.

Adding on Desmond said they resisted and in the process, Kwadwo Owusu hit the head of Gyekye Matthew with a stone and he fell unconscious.

He was rushed to St. Dominic’s Hospital, Akwatia for treatment where he was admitted and passed on.

Desmond Anokye told Daily News Ghana that he reported the incident to the police which led to the arrest of Kwadwo Owusu while efforts are underway to arrest the other accomplices now at large.
