FLASHBACK: Ghana came from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1 at AFCON 2008 (WATCH)

Let’s take a look back at one of the most entertaining matches between the two opposing national teams before the opening leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff encounter between Ghana and Nigeria.

The Black Stars met the Super Eagles in the quarter-finals of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which was held in Ghana.

On the day of the match, Nigeria seized the lead through striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni after the team was awarded a penalty kick at the Ohene Djan Stadium.

A stunning header from Michael Essien late in the first half restored parity for Ghana, giving the Black Stars a chance to win the game.

After the break, Ghana kept pushing forward and eventually won 2-1 thanks to a late striker tap-in from Junior Agogo.
