Ghana vs Nigeria: Afena-Gyan and Semenyo leads Black Stars’ attack

DailyNewsGhana.com has confirmed that AS Roma’s Felix Afena-Gyan and Antoine Semenyo will be in Ghana’s team for the forthcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup play-off games against Nigeria.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has declined to reveal the team due to a technical decision, however, 3news.com has confirmed that interim coach Otto Addo has invited the two forwards.
Afena-inclusion Gyan’s is surprising, given that he had previously turned down two call-ups from former coach Milovan Rajevac, claiming that he was not ready for national team service.
Last November, Rajevac called him for World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa, and then earlier this year for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Before inviting Afena-Gyan, Otto Addo may have been assured of his availability.
AS Roma confirmed the signing of Afena-Gyan from lower-tier side EurAfrica FC a little over a year ago.
Afena-Gyan began his career with the U-19s, but his progress has been quick, and he is now considered a first-team player.
Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the 19-year-old, who has made 21 appearances and scored two fine goals this season.
Semenyo is a relatively unknown figure in Ghana. The striker was born to a Ghanaian father in west London.
He currently plays for Bristol City in the English Championship, where he is flourishing following a succession of loan appearances.
He has been connected with a number of big European clubs, including West Ham United, Celtic, and RB Salzburg.
