Government reducing the hardships of Ghanaians – Bawumia

The government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will continue to work assiduously to reduce the hardships and suffering of Ghanaians Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said.

Citing examples of how the government has or is reducing the hardship of Ghanaians, Dr Bawumia said: “We have reduced the suffering of parents who could not pay school fees for their wards with the introduction of Free SHS.

“We have reduced the suffering of teacher trainees by restoring teacher trainee allowances.

“We have reduced the suffering of nursing trainees by restoring nursing training allowances.”

He continued: “We have reduced the suffering of farmers with the introduction of the Planting for Food and Jobs programmers.

“We have reduced the suffering of many households by reducing electricity bills, the first government in the fourth republic to do so compared to the average annual increases of 45% under the previous NDC government.

“We have reduced the suffering of the disabled with the employment of many in 50% of our toll booths and increasing the share of the District Assembly Common Fund to the disabled by 5O%.”

Dr Bawumia further noted that the government has “reduced the suffering of the unemployed generally by recruiting over 350,000 people into the public sector, NABCO has reduced the suffering of 100,000 graduates.

“We have reduced the hardship of getting a passport, now you just fill your forms online, pay with mobile money and you’re good to go. You don’t have to suffer to get a passport, we have also reduced the suffering of people in obtaining a drivers license by digitising the process” adding that “We have reduced the suffering of importers by reducing import duties by 50% and automating the clearance process.”

Dr Bawumia said these on Sunday, 22 December 2019 during the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference held in Accra.

The Vice-President noted that although the government has not eliminated the suffering of Ghanaians completely its policies have helped to reduce the sufferings of Ghanaians.

He further challenged the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who is seeking to unseat the NPP in the 2020 polls to make public how they reduced the suffering of Ghanaians during their eight years in office.
