Has the law lost common sense in the Assin North case?” – Supreme Court slammed

Sylvester Mensah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) asks the Supreme Court to explore holding public hearings to clarify some of its decisions.

His request for a public lecture follows the Apex Bench’s judgment on Assin North Member of Parliament James Gyakye Quayson, who was prevented from holding himself out as a lawmaker on April 13 by a 5 – 2 decision of the Justice Dotse-led court.

In a Facebook post in response to the verdict, Sly Mensah, as he is known in politics, demanded an explanation.

“Has the law lost common sense in the Assin North case?” he questioned

Adding that, “Perhaps the time has come for the Supreme Court to hold public fora, just like the Executive and the Legislature, to explain the wisdom in some of its judgments that have attracted significant public interest and social commentary in recent times.”
