Husband, wife, children and mother-in-law perish as vehicle plunges into river

On January 8, 2021, a family of six died in a horrific traffic accident on the Kumasi-Bibiani route when their Honda Civic vehicle’s offside tyre ruptured and crashed into a river.

Chief Superintendent Adu-Boahen, the Ashanti Regional Police MTTD commander, verified the event to EIB News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent Isaac Justice Bediako.

“It has come to my knowledge through the accident report that six persons have died in the Nkawie area.” The investigation has begun. The police chief is cited as saying, “I have yet to get facts about the accident from my officers on the ground.”

Eunice Maame Fosua, a Community Health nurse at Forifori Health Center in Afram Plains South District in the Eastern region, was one of the victims, according to reports. She was currently on study leave studying post-basic midwifery.

“They attended the wedding of Eunice’s sister-in-law (her husband’s sister),” a close friend of the perished family told Starrfm.com.gh.

“They were six (6) in the car, and they all couldn’t make it,” the person continued. Eunice, her husband, Eunice’s mother, their child, and two other children are all in the picture. They were on their way home from the wedding when they died tragically.

“When the husband attempted an overtake, he noticed another car approaching. They landed in a nearby river and drowned in an attempt to swerve.”
