Kintampo South MP provides free meals & transportation for BECE candidates

Member of Parliament (MP) for Kintampo South in the Bono East Region, Alexander Gyan, has provided free transportation and meals for candidates sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in his constituency.

Some 1357 pupils made up of 706 males and 651 female writing at three centres: Jema Senior High School, Modern Senior High School- Kintampo and Dega Community Day Senior High School in New Longoro, are beneficiaries of the MP’s benevolence.

This is not the first time the MP has extended such kind gesture to BECE candidates.  Since 2016, before becoming an MP for the area in 2021, Mr Gyan has always provided BECE candidates with free transportation and two square meals each day till the examination ends. The new MP is a member of the Government Assurance and Communications committees of Parliament.

The candidates were overwhelmed with joy when the District Chief Executive for Kintampo South, Opoku Nyame, disclosed the news to them.

About 571,894 final year junior high school (JHS) students across the country are sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) which started Monday, November 15.

The examination is to qualify them for placement into Senior High Schools (SHSs).

Over 2,000 centers have been set up across the 16 regions of the country for the examinations run by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

They are started with Social Studies and French on Monday. The examinations are scheduled to end on Friday, November 19.

According to WAEC, officials of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) have been deployed to monitor the process to prevent malpractices.

The Council said Covid-19 protocols have also been put in place across the 2,158 centers as hand sanitizers will be given to all candidates.
