World Cup playoff: Jordan Ayew out, youngster Edmund Addo in for Black Stars

DailyNewsGhana.com has reported that coach Otto Addo has extended an invitation to Moldova-based midfielder Edmund Addo for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria on Friday.

The youthful defensive midfielder was a member of Ghana’s AFCON squad and will be back in camp with the Black Stars for the two matches against the Super Eagles.

The 21-year-old midfielder is part of the side that coach Otto Addo and his technical team have yet to name for the cliffhanger match against Nigeria.

Addo has appeared in 29 appearances for FC Sheriff Tiraspol in all competitions this season in Moldova’s top flight, scoring one goal and assisting on two occasions.

He competed at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, but Ghana enthralled the competition after a crushing defeat to Comoros in the group round.

Jordan Ayew, Ghana’s star scorer, tested positive for coronavirus just days before the Black Stars’ key World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on Friday.

From a reliable source at Crystal Palace, DailyNewsGhana.com can report that the former Swansea City forward has tested positive for coronavirus, meaning he will miss Ghana’s World Cup qualifier playoffs against Nigeria next week in Kumasi.
